A Life Filled with Challenge & Change

I know what it’s like to always be exhausted from fighting to “do it all” and struggling to find the energy to tackle the demands of your changing life. Newly pregnant with my daughter and parenting my two young sons, we moved from Kentucky to Georgia away from my extended family and support system. I worked from home so my then husband could advance his career by traveling five days a week to South Carolina. I experienced the terror of being 6 figures in credit card debt and on the verge of bankruptcy. I continued to work from home while caring for my three children, coordinating care for my child struggling with mental illness and homeschooling because severe anxiety kept them home bound.

I spent hours and hours researching therapies, medications, treatment facilities, providers and also keeping watch, sleeping on the floor by the bed when the anxiety gave way to depression and things got really scary. I kept working part-time and navigated the stress that came with that to keep food on the table, pay the bills and allow my partner to travel the world growing his new independent software company. He occasionally went without pay for some months to ensure he could make payroll for his employees.

I struggled with my own mental and physical health challenges as the consistent, extended stress and chaos of my life took its toll on my well being. I invested decades of my life trying to “fix” my seriously unhealthy marriage, which I finally ended and then navigated through a needlessly difficult divorce.

I was beyond tired & emotionally drained from trying to heal, cope all on my own and make the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

Luckily, I had started practicing yoga when I had three small children at home and needed a way to get exercise that didn’t require childcare or leaving my house. Fortunately, I found a fitness channel with a daily 30-minute yoga class. Voila, problem solved – and new adventure started! Little did I know how it would radically improve my whole life.

Through all our hardships, yoga kept me from being completely overwhelmed.  It strengthened my body, mind and spirit, so I didn’t collapse under the burden of a million things to do, feeling like I couldn’t keep up and wracked with worry. It helped me do a whole lot of healing and even reach a place of appreciation for the lessons learned through my hardships. In fact, the sadness, anxiety and struggle in my life drew me even deeper into my yoga practice.

I slowly evolved from a “let’s get exercise three times a week for 30 minutes at a time” practitioner to a full time yogi who has found healing, peace, balance, and solace through a daily yoga asana practice that incorporates meditation and breath work. I also chose to use the supportive Ayurvedic routines and dietary choices which provide a holistic framework for maintaining my overall well-being and vitality.

Yoga provided me with a physical outlet for frustrations and a simple way to maintain fitness amidst the storms. It became my quiet, contemplative space to look inward and find the answers I needed. One of those answers was to make the transition from student to guide – so I could share all the goodness I discovered through yoga with others.

Yoga & Self Care Coach

A decade ago I was a 40 year old mother of three with a seriously ill child, six figures in credit card debt, and an unhealthy marriage that was slowly imploding. Exhausted and emotionally drained, I knew I couldn’t continue living like this. Amidst the chaos of my life, I began to find deep inner peace through my simple yoga and self care practices. The crazier life got, the deeper I went into my practices to seek solace, and the more they helped me navigate the insanity with skill and grace. Yoga and self care practices were literally a lifeline that kept me from unraveling from the chaos of my personal life. I took my personal practice even further by completing my 200 hour yoga teacher training. During this time, I realized I could provide significant help to other people navigating stress & major transitions by helping them learn these simple yet powerful practices to create harmony and handle whatever life sends their way.
